This jewelry was probably part of a set of ceremonial vestments and may have been a sign of the wearer’s high social status. The gold and amber jewelry is evidence of a flourishing Late Bronze Age culture. These pieces of jewelry indicate that there was probably a close network of European contacts spanning the Baltic, the Alps and the Carpathian Basin. Only a few weeks after its foundation, on 6 May 1875, the first Hungarian athletics meeting was held, where running, throwing, jumping and boxing events were presented. At the first Olympic Games of the modern era in 1896, the Club provided two medallists for the Hungarian team, and later trained world-class athletes in numerous disciplines, including 18 Olympic champions (in fencing, water polo and wrestling). In 1901, the Club built its iconic sports complex on Margaret Island, which became a centre for athletics, football and tennis. Between the two World Wars, it remained the country’s most important sports club, fostering the careers of the likes of the Olympic silver medallists Elemér Somfay and Béla Szepes, and the leading tennis player of the era and table tennis world champion Béla Kehrling. After World War II, the communist regime dissolved the Club, confiscated its facilities, and built the Pioneers’ Stadium in its place. The Club was re-established in 1989 and remains one of the most prestigious symbols of Hungarian sporting life today. Bozsik’s play was characterised by his impeccable technical skills, inexhaustible creativity, tactical maturity, and impressive ease and control, in short he was a true ”football genius”. In his prime, he was considered the world’s best attacking wing-half. He won a gold medal at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, was a European Cup winner in 1953, and played in the 6-3 victory over England in London, where he also scored a goal. In 1954, he won a runners-up medal at the World Cup with the Hungarian team. He took part in the 1958 World Cup in Sweden and won the Central European Cup with Honved in 1959. When his playing career ended, he became the head of Honvéd’s football unit, then its coach, and in 1974 he also worked as the coach of the national team. He died in 1978 at the age of 52. In 1986, the Budapest Honvéd stadium was named after him, and several schools and football academies also bear his name. He was posthumously made an honorary citizen of Kispest and Budapest, and in 2013 his legacy was honoured on the anniversary of the 6-3 victory.
