In the 17th century, the settlement served as the seat of the Hont county for a brief period. In 1910, a 600 mm, narrow-gauge forest railway network opened, starting from the southern end of the village and winding through the valleys of the Börzsöny Hills to Királykút, Rakottyás and Halyagos. Originally, the railway transported timber to the sawmill in Kemence. From the 1960s onwards, the importance of the railway gradually declined. The section in the valley of the Csarna stream, which came into service in 1913, operated until the end of the 1980s.
