Aghdam District is located in the center of Karabakh, an ancient and beautiful land of Azerbaijan. Aghdam City is known for its historical monuments and buildings. One of the mosques in Aghdam—the Juma Mosque (built between 1868 and 1870)—is depicted on the souvenir sheet of three stamps.
The Karabakh Horse, shown on another stamp, is a mountain-compact horse breed developed in the Karabakh territory of Azerbaijan. This breed was further improved during the Karabakh Khanate in the 17th and 18th centuries. It is considered the oldest horse breed in Asia and the Caucasus.
