2025 Contemporary Hungarian Art - Set of 3
In 2025, Magyar Posta presents three contemporary Hungarian artworks from the collection of the Kovács Gábor Art Foundation (KOGART) as a series of special stamps.
Tibor Csernus’s work is typified by Surnaturalism, Surrealism, and later Hyperrealism, while his style has been referred to as “magical realism”. Csernus’s painting Roman Soldiers (130 × 162 cm) was created in the 1990s using oil on canvas. The painting Roman Soldiers reflects a contemporary approach in combination with possible historical and mythological elements. Zsuzsa Péreli’s art transports the viewer into the world of individual expression, emotions and intimacy, while frequently contemplating social and cultural phenomena. Péreli’s Axis Mundi (2010-2011) is a tapestry measuring 180 × 140 cm composed of mixed materials: wool, silk, metal and gold. Péreli’s oeuvre often incorporates spiritual and symbolic elements that stretch the boundaries between space and material.
