Magyar Posta is marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of Gyula Grosics (1926–2014) by issuing a commemorative stamp. The stamp commemorates the legendary goalkeeper of the Golden Team, who was capped 86 times for Hungary and was awarded the title of National Athlete.
Gyula Grosics was born in Dorog on 4 February 1926. At the age of thirteen, his sporting career began at Dorog AC, where he played between 1943 and 1947. In 1944, he reached the semifinals of the Hungarian Cup and, in 1945, his team was promoted to the Hungarian first division. In 1947, he became the goalkeeper of MATEOSZ (the Hungarian Truckers’ Association), and then in 1950 joined Budapest Honvéd, which at that time employed the legendary players of the Golden Team.
