2025 Europa - National Archaeological Discoveries

The Archaeological Museum in Biskupin is one of the largest and best-recognised archaeological reserves in Europe. Its exceptional value to Poland’s cultural heritage has led to its designation as a Historic Monument. The museum covers an area of about 38 hectares and contains numerous traces of ancient settlements dating from the Stone Age to the early Middle Ages. The most famous site is a peninsula extending into Lake Biskupińskie, featuring the remains of a fortified settlement from the transition between the Bronze and Iron Ages. The site was discovered and first excavated in the 1930s. Today, the museum features reconstructions of prehistoric and early medieval settlements. Its mission includes the collection, preservation, scientific study, conservation, and exhibition of cultural artifacts. The museum is dedicated to education, the popularization of archaeology and related disciplines, and the protection of cultural heritage. Following the long-established principle of “living science,” qualified educators conduct museum lessons, workshops, and demonstrations on various aspects of archaeology and historical reenactments for children, adolescents, and adults.
