This is the philatelic story of the formation and dissolution of the second Hungarian empire. The first empire was created after the revolution of 1867, when Hungary was granted control of a large expanse of the eastern Hapsburg empire. This included today's Slovakia, Northern Transylvania in Romania and Croatia. Austria was on the losing side in World War I and Hungary was busted back to its core.
